Background

Founded over 20 years ago, Mini-Cam Ltd specialises in the manufacture and distribution of pipeline inspection systems including Proteus™ Crawlers, SOLOPro+™ Push Cameras and ProPIPE™ Reporting Software. The business has established a strong global presence through an international network providing sales, servicing and support to customers in over 25 countries worldwide.

The business has experienced significant growth over recent years and had an annual turnover exceeding £11 million per annum, supported by exceptional profit figures.

Mini-Cam had received PE backing through LDC, and subsequently required a Finance Director, who could;

  • Ensure a successful transition from a privately owned to a PE-backed business.
  • Work closely with the LDC to ensure the future success of the business as it moves towards a future sale.
  • Deliver the international business plan.
  • Be an authoritative finance lead and act as a key and influential member of the Board.

Journey

Rowan worked with Jonathan Bell at LDC to understand their ambitions, as well as the business’.

When it was established that a new CFO was required, Rowan worked with the PE House to define the brief, and undertook extensive competitor analysis.

When the Research team was familiar with the market, competitor landscape and the cultural and personality requirements of the incoming CFO, Rowan undertook a comprehensive Search and Assessment process. This consisted of:

  • An extensive search of the marketplace, to uncover senior candidates with experience of the manufacturing sector, and also the Private Equity world.
  • A comprehensive assessment of potential candidates, using competency-based interviews, references and Rowan’s bespoke Cognite® tool.
  • The delivery of a shortlist of qualified, experienced candidates.

Through this Search process, Colin White was successfully appointed. Colin had relevant B2B experience of investment and exit with the Nanoco Group and others, where he had previously worked at the CFO level.

Impact

Since joining in 2015, Colin has:

  • Deliver the international business plan.
  • Worked with the founders to deliver an exit for LDC that exceeded all expectation
  • Managed due diligence processes for the business’ sale to Halma PLC.
  • Integrated Mini-Cam into Halma.
  • Managed integration process for another Halma acquisition.
